Give Back 100: Breaking Barriers, Building Futures

by Kim K
Cornerstone Institute launches the Give Back 100 Campaign, offering 100 fully funded bursaries for 2026 to support South African students.

In South Africa, higher education remains one of the most powerful tools for social and economic transformation. Yet access continues to be shaped by inequality. With youth unemployment among 15–34-year-olds at a staggering 43.4% (Statistics South Africa, Q1 2025), a tertiary qualification is not simply an academic milestone.

It is a lifeline — a pathway to opportunity and a direct response to one of the country’s most pressing challenges.

Studies show that financial hardship extends far beyond tuition fees. Food insecurity, poor mental health, and a lack of study resources are major reasons why many students drop out before completing their studies. The result is an uneven playing field where ability is often overshadowed by circumstance. True educational transformation must therefore focus on the whole student — not only their financial needs but their overall wellbeing and learning environment.

Introducing the Give Back 100 Campaign

In response, Cornerstone Institute has launched the Give Back 100 Campaign — a holistic, impact-driven initiative designed to remove the barriers that limit access to higher education and success.

Cornerstone Institute is a fully accredited private higher education institution committed to academic excellence and social impact. The university’s mission is grounded in the belief that education should be a transformative force, empowering individuals while strengthening communities and society at large.

Through the Give Back 100 Campaign, Cornerstone aims to award 100 fully funded bursaries for the 2026 academic year. The bursaries are structured as follows:

  • 90 bursaries for the Higher Certificate in Business Studies
  • 10 bursaries for the Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) degree

More Than Funding: A Complete Support System

Cornerstone recognises that tuition alone is not enough. Many students struggle with the practical barriers of studying — from the cost of textbooks and laptops to unreliable internet access. The Give Back 100 Campaign addresses this by forming partnerships to provide each recipient with essential tools for academic success, including:

  • Laptops and learning materials
  • Textbooks and digital resources
  • Reliable internet access

This all-round support model ensures that bursary recipients can focus on learning, growth, and graduation, without the constant worry of financial strain.

Who Should Apply?

The bursaries are aimed at South Africans who demonstrate academic potential and personal motivation but face financial constraints. Applications are encouraged from:

  • Unemployed youth and adults (aged 18–35) seeking to enhance employability.
  • Employed individuals who want to upskill and advance their careers.
  • Recent school leavers with strong academic results but limited financial means.

Applicants must show:

  • Financial need (proof of household income or an affidavit).
  • Academic ability (a certified matric certificate or transcript).
  • Motivation and commitment (a motivational letter and one recommendation).

Application Details

Applications for the 2026 academic year open on 6 October 2025 and close on 31 January 2026.

The process is simple:

An Investment in Human Potential

The Give Back 100 Campaign represents more than financial aid — it is an investment in South Africa’s future. By empowering 100 students with education, tools, and mentorship, Cornerstone Institute is nurturing a new generation of leaders, professionals, and changemakers.

“Every graduate we support creates a ripple effect,” the institution notes. “Education transforms individuals, but it also strengthens families, communities, and the nation as a whole.”

Building a More Inclusive Future

The Give Back 100 Campaign embodies Cornerstone’s belief that when opportunity meets potential, transformation follows. By breaking down barriers and opening doors to higher education, the initiative aims to build a more inclusive, equitable, and empowered South Africa.
